- As an Unanticipated Black-Out Piques the Public's Awareness of Power Interruption, Retailers Can Seize the Opportunity to Offer Deals on Power Protection and Solar-based Back-up -

HARRISBURG, PA - February 6, 2013 - Although Beyonce's lighting crew may not be setting-up camp in anyone's neighborhood soon, the spectacular black-out at Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans proves that no infrastructure is immune to power outages-and the repercussions of even a short spate of downtime. D&H Distributing encourages its dealers, retailers and etailers to seize this period of heightened awareness and put surge protection and alternative power-based products in the spotlight.

Power protection was one of D&H Distributing's top growth categories of 2012, gaining more than 20% in sales over the previous calendar year. Manufacturer partners such as APC, Tripp Lite and CyberPower offer power protection solutions including UPS (uninterrupted power supply) units, battery back-up devices and surge protectors that accommodate everything from a single personal device to large-scale retail POS environments or business networks.

Eco-friendly vendors such as Eton Corporation and Concept Green Energy Solutions offer a range of solar and alternatively-powered products, such as portable solar chargers and adapters, even a solar generator. Eton has dubbed its hand-crankable "BoostTurbine" chargers and other back-up battery devices as "Red Cross ready." These items store safe and readily-available energy to keep devices functioning through an electrical disruption.

"There are certain cultural moments that remind the public how important it is to prepare for emergencies and unexpected set-backs. This year's Super Bowl was one of them - although thankfully, a non-threatening one," said Rob Eby, vice president of purchasing at D&H Distributing. "It's an opportunity to remind purchasers that they can safeguard their devices through a great selection of protection products and energy-conservative options, from solar charging devices to cooling units to multi-outlet strips that monitor power. This marketing tactic contributes to the retailer's bottom line, preserves the consumer's investment, and is environmentally friendly to boot."
