The event kicked-off early in the morning with a "Presentation of the Colors" by American Legion Post 272 Honor Guard, followed by an address from D&H Co-President Dan Schwab acknowledging the solemnity of the occasion. D&H then presented checks to each of the three charity organizations. The golf tournament went on to include refreshments, multiple 50/50 raffles, and door prizes including a grand prize of a Blackstone 36" Front Tray Bundle outdoor grill product package, sponsored by Tripp Lite. Tournament winners received prizes of up to $400 in cash and trophies.

Embracing a Credo: Built for Growth, Generations, and Giving

The Annual Golf for Charity Tournament was part of D&H's larger "BFG" initiative, illustrating that the company is "Built for Growth, Built for Generations, and Built for Giving." D&H has also participated in ongoing projects in the Harrisburg community through Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley; The Central PA Food Bank in Harrisburg; The Ronald McDonald House in Hershey; and a list of other local organizations over the years.

The BFG initiative is reflected internally through not only sales and revenue growth, but also through a significant increase in headcount to accommodate this upward trajectory. An employee-owned, ESOP company, D&H was scheduled to add 100 new employee co-owners as per early 2021, and recently resolved to increase headcount again by another 50 team members across a range of areas. Positions range from directors and departmental heads to sales associates and vendor-dedicated representatives.

The company is committed to the Harrisburg area, and in fact established its new, two-building headquarters on Tech Drive after outgrowing the Seventh Street facility it had inhabited for decades. Those who are interested in finding out about open positions can browse www.dandh.com/careers or visit www.dandh.com/techdrive for information on the D&H headquarters, which has amenities like de-stress rooms, a well-equipped game room, walking trails, a state-of-the-art media studio, outdoor WiFi, whimsically-themed conference rooms—and lots of extra space for both growth and distancing.

"D&H is honored to pay tribute to our first responders at our Annual Golf Tournament. These men and women provide an invaluable service to our community, and some of them paid the ultimate price for it on September 11th," said Dan Schwab, co-president at D&H. "We've been reminded this past year of the dedication, bravery, and vital expertise that first responders show during a crisis. Our team will continue to try to mirror those values by engaging with the Harrisburg community."

"As a private company, we're not beholden to shareholders, we're beholden to our employee co-owners and our partners. Our objectives are to work hard, but to provide a family environment and a positive work/life balance that makes each of our team members feel valued," said Michael Schwab, co-president. "This relationship-driven approach is where the ‘built for generations' part of our mantra comes in. We've grown into a fourth-generation, five-billion dollar company that puts an emphasis on the well-being of its employee co-owners, and on the community we all belong to. Our golf event is just one way to put this into force."
