The Distributor Has Enhanced its Line of Activity and Notifications Bracelets, Reflecting the Growing Consumer Trend Toward Wearable Personal

HARRISBURG, PA - October 14, 2014 - D&H Distributing, the leading North American computer products and consumer electronics distributor, has expanded its lineup of wearable devices to satisfy the growing market trend toward these new personal technological "accessories." The distributor recently added wearable items from manufacturers such as Runtastic, Razer, Striiv and Garmin, in addition to lines the distributor has been supporting from Fitbit, a leader in wearable fitness and home healthcare trackers. The demographic for these devices is expanding, as products on the horizon are targeted at both children and pets.

Wearable devices in the outdoor sports category are also stimulating consumer interest. Helmet- and chest-mounted digital videocameras and night-vision systems by GoPro, Emerson and ATN are being marketed to camping, hunting, biking and skiing enthusiasts. These "action cameras" are early examples of wearable electronics that helped pave the way for today's more diverse wearables. Head-mounted video units may in fact have served as early inspiration for innovations such as Google Glass.

New "wearable" vendors partnering with D&H include:

Runtastic: This manufacturer's sleep and activity bracelets utilize mobile phone apps to track and share physical performance data via Bluetooth and GPS.

Razer: The customizable Razor Nabu Smartband discreetly delivers notifications to the wearer with just a turn or shake of the wrist, updating the status of email, SMS feeds, calls, social media, etc.

Striiv: This activity and sleep tracker is also a smart watch, providing call, text and meeting notifications. It uploads charted data to the user's smartphone.

Garmin: Garmin's rugged GPS watches and activity bracelets track distance, pace and calories, allowing users to access ongoing training histories and personal data.

"People want to be connected all the time now, not just socially, but also to their homes and in regard to their health. Wearables have been particularly well-accepted in the home healthcare space, since fitness enthusiasts have long been accustomed to pedometers, heart monitors and even MP3 players worn via arm bands during jogging sessions," said Rob Eby, vice president of purchasing at D&H Distributing. "However, the ability for users to collect a digital account of their own vitals has far-reaching implications in a healthcare environment where patient records are being converted to electronic form all over the country." Such data could be used in coordination with digital healthcare records platforms to more thoroughly monitor a patient's ongoing health, nearly in real time.

"We are coming to the point where, within the next few years, everyone will have not just a smartphone on their person, but one or two additional connected devices either on their bodies or in their purses or briefcases," added Jeff Davis, senior vice president of sales at D&H Distributing. "It's the beginning of an exciting era, one in which the industry fosters an even more intrinsic connection between consumers and technology. We look forward to seeing where this trend will lead us."
