- One of the Region's Largest Employers, D&H Distributing, Celebrated the Announcement Along With a Former D&H Wish Recipient on 6/17 at the Dauphin County Offices -

HARRISBURG, PA - June 18, 2019 - D&H Distributing, a major North American technology distributor and one of Harrisburg's largest employers, has partnered with Make-A-Wish® Philadelphia, Delaware, and Susquehanna Valley to facilitate wishes for children across Dauphin County for a full year. In order to support Make-A-Wish® and raise awareness of its impactful mission, the distributor will ensure that all of the year's wishes are funded, equating to an estimated 12 to 14 wishes in this timeframe. D&H is extending this remarkable gesture of support as it relocates its corporate headquarters within the county, highlighting D&H's commitment to the local community.

D&H has volunteered to address the gap of wishes that are not currently funded in Dauphin County. Make-A-Wish has had dedicated and loyal support from local donors, but is still not in a position to fully fund the 12-14 wishes that are granted annually in this region. As such, D&H will become the lead partner in ensuring that all wishes are fulfilled next year.

D&H worked with Make-A-Wish in 2018, sponsoring a trip to Universal Studios for a 13-year-old boy from Lancaster, PA, by the name of Max and his family. The family joined D&H once again at the Dauphin County Offices on Monday, June 17 to announce the new partnership at a D&H Make-A-Wish Celebration Ceremony. The event was attended by D&H Co-Presidents Dan Schwab and Michael Schwab; Dennis J. Heron, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish® Philadelphia, Delaware, and Susquehanna Valley; and three Dauphin County Commissioners, Hon. Jeff Haste, Mike Pries, and George P. Hartwick, III.

Inspired to Extend More Support

Wish kid Max is diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder. As an avid superhero fan, he was overjoyed to vacation at Universal Studios courtesy of Make-A-Wish. Prior to Max's trip, D'H held a wish reveal event for him and his family along with more than 700 of D&H's local co-owners/employees, at the company's Harrisburg headquarters in October of 2018.

"Since sponsoring Max was such a rewarding experience, D&H was eager to find a way to accommodate more wishes for the young people involved with Make-A-Wish in our area," said Dan Schwab, co-president at D&H. "We're thrilled for the opportunity to support additional projects with this foundation, creating uplifting experiences for children that help distract from their conditions and provide some vital, positive encouragement in their lives."

"As a company with an extended history in this area, D&H is looking to reinforce its commitment to Dauphin County," said Michael Schwab, co-president at D&H. &We therefore also hope our involvement helps to enhance awareness of Make-A-Wish, in this county and throughout the Harrisburg business community. Thanks go to Max for his inspiration."

"D&H is showing extraordinary initiative in partnering with us. Their commitment is to ensure that all wishes in Dauphin County are granted for a full year. In my 23 years at Make-A-Wish, I've rarely seen this level of leadership from one organization," said Dennis J. Heron, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley. "For many years we have had a cadre of exceptional donors and volunteers doing extraordinary work in Dauphin County on our behalf, but year after year the number of children awaiting wishes exceeded our ability to fund them all. D&H is going to close that gap. The company's efforts will go a long way in bringing some potentially game-changing hope, strength, and joy to kids with critical illnesses in our area."

Dauphin County Board Chairman Jeff Haste agreed. "We're incredibly proud to partner with Dan, Michael, and the D"H family to grant wishes to Dauphin County children," said Haste.

Now in its 101st year, D&H is moving its headquarters to a new, larger location in the fall of 2019, having decided to remain in Dauphin County. The distributor would like to celebrate its ongoing dedication to the region that has been its home for almost 70 years. The company's executive team felt that a more prolific partnership with Make-A-Wish in Dauphin would be a terrific part of that celebration.

"We couldn't be happier to stand with D&H, one of Harrisburg's largest employers, and support children with serious illness and their families," said Dauphin County Commissioner Mike Pries.

The distributor will conduct its first wish grant as part of this effort in April of 2020, and will be inspiring various local business partners to support the granting of wishes with Make-A-Wish throughout the year.

"It's amazing to see how a single wish inspired D"H to expand the program and grant a year's worth of wishes," said Dauphin County Commissioner George P. Hartwick, III. "We hope this enormously generous act will inspire others."
