A Tribute to Izzy, A Lifetime of Inspiration

D&H Distributing shares with deep sadness the passing of Izzy Schwab, Chairman Emeritus and one of the guiding forces behind the company for more than seven decades. Izzy's leadership journey began at D&H in 1951 and spanned generations. His forward-thinking vision helped shape D&H's growth beyond its regional roots to serve partners across North America, while his unwavering belief in people and partnership defined the culture that continues to guide the teams at D&H today.

Perhaps most notably, Izzy championed shared ownership by establishing D&H's Employee Stock Ownership Plan, ensuring the success of the business would always be rooted in those who help build it. His legacy lives on through the thousands of co-owners across the United States and Canada who carry his values forward.

Izzy is survived by his wife, three children, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one grand dog, Sugar. Their presence across generations was central to his life and legacy.

In lieu of flowers, the family has shared that those who wish to honor Izzy's memory may consider a contribution to either of these two organizations, causes close to his heart.

The family will be having a private funeral; however we also plan to host a Celebration of Life at a future date at D&H Headquarters that will be open to friends, partners, and members of the D&H community. For those unable to attend in person, additional ways to participate or share sentiments will be made available.

A Moment in Time

Attached is a collection of posters created in recognition of Izzy's 50 years with D&H. These pieces were shared at the time to celebrate his leadership, commitment, and lasting impact on the teams at D&H.

While they make a significant milestone, Izzy's influence and contributions continued well beyond that moment, helping shape the many company milestones and generations that followed. We are making them available here as part of this tribute, as a reflection of the appreciation and gratitude felt by so many throughout his journey with D&H.

Thank You for Sharing Your Thoughts

Izzy was and still is amazing! He was always in the moment. Never did he make you feel lesser than him. I'll never forget his office visits. You could tell he was in the office by his tasteful enjoyment of cigars.

It really left a mark on me seeing his classic car and being able to enjoy a conversation any time of the day. Over 9 years ago, he and I first met. 9 years to know someone is blessed amount of time.

My thoughts and prayers go out to co-owners, friends, and family. Thank you Izzy, your work here is done.

Travis Brown, D&H Co-Owner

Dear Dan, I wanted to let you know I was deeply saddened to learn last week of your father Izzy's passing, and I wanted to reach out personally to extend my condolences to you, your mother Elaine, Michael, Amy, and the entire Schwab family.

Reading about Izzy's life and legacy is both moving and inspiring. What he built at D&H is extraordinary-not only in scale and success, but in spirit. His belief that "people make the business go" is not just a quote; it is something I genuinely felt and observed during my visit to D&H. The culture, the pride, the passion, and the sense of shared ownership among the people there spoke volumes about the values he instilled and protected for decades. It was evident that this was not simply a company, but a community shaped by leadership, integrity, and deep respect for people.

Izzy's vision to evolve the business, his foresight in embracing IT distribution, and his decision to make employees true co-owners are remarkable achievements that will endure far beyond any balance sheet. Just as powerful, though, is the family legacy-watching his sons take the company to new heights, while preserving the family-business mentality he cherished so deeply. That balance is rare, and it is a testament to both his leadership and yours.

I was especially touched by the reflections you shared about working for your father-the tough love, the high standards, and the unwavering pride he had in his children. Those are the marks of a great leader and an even greater father (and a tall bar for any father. I hope Matt and his two brothers will have at least some of these feelings for their dad when the time comes!). His devotion to your mother, his joy in his growing family, and his unmistakable zest for life round out a life truly well lived.

Please know that my thoughts are with you and your family during this time morning and I trust celebration of his life! Izzy's legacy clearly lives on-in D&H, in its people, and in the values you and your family continue to carry forward. May his memory be a source of strength, pride, and comfort in the days ahead.

With sincere sympathy and respect,

Mike S. Zafirovski, Business Partner

I was very sorry to hear about your Dad. It was a great article to read about his life in the newspaper. I now know who shipped to me my very first computer. It was Izzy! I remember seeing his name on the shipping label of the box the day my awesome laptop came! Maybe someday I'll work in the D&H warehouse shipping computers.

I am thinking of you and your family. I bet you have a ton of great stories about your Dad. I also remember one time you sent me a photo of one of Izzy's funny math t-shirts.

School is going well. I am in 7th grade and made the 2nd string of the varsity basketball team this year. I may be 2nd string, but I have the most 3 point shots made in the season for my team. I think I have sixteen 3-pointers so far in my stats this year. Steph Curry, Kon Kneuppel, and Cooper Flagg better watch out. Hahah.

I am honoring Izzy by sending Make-A-Wish a donation all from me. I started a small job last fall just a few hours working with a retired police officer. He trains dogs for obedience and I help out around his farm on good weather weekends and I help with the dogs and their training. My dog, Camden Yards, "Cami" for short, comes along with me whenever I work. I read that your dad was a season ticket holder for the entire history of the Baltimore Orioles!!! Just an amazing fact to know about him and the Orioles!

I am thinking of you, D&H, and your family. I want you to know it makes me proud to be a D&H MAW kid who can now honor Izzy and all the kindness he gave to a lot of people.

Remember we can all do hard things and be full of joy.

Troy Papich, Make-A-Wish Child

I was very sorry to hear of your father Izzy's passing. Please accept my heartfelt condolences to you, your families, and everyone who was touched by his life.

What Izzy built at D&H was not just a successful company, but as CRN stated, a "IT distribution powerhouse" grounded in integrity, long-term vision, and genuine relationships. His leadership and values set a standard that continues to shape the industry and inspire so many.

More importantly, Izzy leaves behind a remarkable personal legacy in you both - one that reflects his character, humility, and commitment to people. That legacy will endure well beyond any business achievement.

I hope you can take comfort in knowing how deeply he was respected and how lasting his impact will be. May your memories of him be a blessing in this difficult time.

Harris Atran, Business Partner

I wanted to share a brief personal note. My father passed away last year. Like your father Izzy, my dad spent much of his career in the early days of IT, and over time I've come to appreciate how small and interconnected that world really was. Given the era they were both active in IT, it's very possible they walked the same COMDEX show floors or moved within the same circles as the industry was taking shape.

Being at D&H over the past year has made me think about that more than I expected. There's a strong sense of continuity here - a respect for the channel and for the people who helped build it - and I've genuinely appreciated being part of that environment.

I just wanted to say thank you for the opportunity to contribute during my time here, and to acknowledge the shared history that, in a small way, connects families through this industry.

Kobe Falco, D&H Co-Owner

Just wanted to send a quick note of condolence. So very sorry to hear of the passing of your dad.

When I first walked into D&H, there was a stark difference in culture that was palatable. Family matters here. It has never been just about business. That says so much about the foundation your dad built and you both carry on. I had the pleasure of meeting him once and he was unmistakably a big personality... direct, bold, genuine and refreshingly real. Reading through the tributes shared about him, his journey and impact was remarkable. And as much as he was a titan of the industry and the driving force behind what D&H is today, at his core he was still a dad and patriarch of your beautiful family. He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy, both in business and family.

No amount of time is ever enough. Moments like this are a powerful reminder of how meaningful the time we have truly is. Sending my deepest condolences to you and yours.

Sonia, D&H Team Member

Very sorry to hear about the passing of your father. He was a visionary, a mentor to the meek and a whirlwind of a leader in our industry. I have several stories from my early times where he "corrected" or mentored me when I was earning my keep at D&H and they have always been a compass for my work in your company. Izzy gave this Texas boy an opportunity to get from one level, to a completely different one, which has dramatically prepared my wife and I for retirement. Without Izzy walking the floor daily on vendor days and telling us reps how to approach different managers etc... I wouldn't have been nearly as successful as you all let me become.

I am forever grateful to the three of you (and your management, sales and marketing teams) from way back to now for all you have done for my employees and family. No one will ever be able to take away all that I learned from D&H and your many great leaders.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire family as you celebrate the life of a man well lived. I am sorry for the loss of a great father, man, and leader.

Victor Blumberg, Business Partner

With the mad dash to complete the stories on Izzy, I felt I didn't really get the full opportunity to express my deepest sympathies on the passing of Izzy.

It was a great blessing to be able to spend some time with him, get to know him and to see first hand the impact he has had on both of you, his entire family and of course all of the D&H co-owners and EVERYONE he touched in some way. Also a blessing to see how you both have taken the many lessons your Dad taught you both and continued the GREAT LEGACY that started with David passed on to your Dad and now to you both.

My heart is broken to know that he is gone but I take consolation in the thoughts and words you both shared with me. Michael used the word resilience as one of the lessons from Izzy. It's a good time to think of Izzy's resilience. Dan said Izzy's life was well led with family and D&H Distributing at the center and that this is a time for a CELEBRATION of Izzy's life.

I take both of your words and sentiments and carry them forward today and into the future. Sending love, condolences, thoughts and prayers to you both, your family and to all those Izzy touched in some way.

God Bless.

Steve Burke, Colleague

My deepest condolences to the Schwab Family including everyone who worked and knew Izzy. His incredible impacts to the people who knew him ring through the D&H halls. It is a pleasure to be a part of the legacy that he built.

Patty George, D&H Co-Owner

I only met Izzy one time in April 2024. He sat next to me when he attended the retirement party for Accounts Receivable Manager, Mary Gauker, who retired after 38 years of service. Prior to that day Mary had shared stories with us about the early years of her career when she worked closely with Izzy. On the day of her retirement party, Izzy retold a few of the stories himself! In fact, Izzy and Mary reminisced about their early years working together and it was truly comical – everyone was engaged and laughing. He talked with Mary like an old friend. During her party he also had the crowd laughing about what his kids "allowed" him to do and his doctor visits!

One obvious thing that amazed me about Izzy (even from a distance) is the way that he raised his family - with incredible work ethic and a commitment to giving back both to co-owners and to the community. As a parent raising teenagers, I have a lot of respect for that! As a co-owner, I am grateful for those values, which remain as the foundation of D&H.

Sending my sincere condolences to the entire Schwab Family.

Colleen Artell, D&H Co-Owner

My deepest condolences to the Schwab family and the D&H Team. Izzy was an outstanding business person, a wonderful family man and an amazing leader. His memory will serve as a blessing.

Bob Shiff, Business Partner

I remember when I started at D&H in 2005 on 7th street, I noticed a smell of cigar smoke at the top of the steps in the lobby, and saw it coming from an office. That's when I met Izzy. I remember my first Christmas there, I gave him Cigars and dog treats for Sugar :) people called me crazy for just knocking on his door, waltzing in and giving him those gifts. He was pretty happy to have them. He will be sadly missed and I am very sorry for your loss.

Nancy Mavretic, D&H Co-Owner

Dear Schwab Family, On behalf of everyone at Supersonic Inc., I would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences on the passing of Izzy.

His extraordinary leadership and decades of dedication to D&H Distributing leave behind a legacy that few can match. Izzy's vision, integrity, and unwavering belief in partnership helped shape not only a remarkable company, but also a culture rooted in shared success and respect for people. The impact he made across generations of employees, partners, and friends will continue to be felt for many years to come.

In the Jewish tradition, we say, "May his memory be a blessing" and may the love of family and community bring you strength during this difficult time.

We are keeping your entire family in our thoughts and prayers.

Sam Shommetoub, Business Partner

My deepest condolences to the Schwab family, close friends and colleagues. I never knew Izzy personally as my journey with D&H only started in the last few years. Izzy built incredible unity here at D&H, to the extend where it 'feels like home'. I'm honored to be a part of continuing Izzy's legacy and may it live on for many more.

Andy de Klerk, D&H Co-Owner

Thank you, Izzy, for all that you have done for the organization, I remember meeting him a few times while in the 100 Tech Drive office, and I can say that I was honored to have met him. My heart goes out to the Schwab family, and I am so grateful to work for a company where you could be walking around the hallway during your break and greet the CEO.

Ethan Hall, D&H Co-Owner

I want to thank Izzy for being instrumental in the creation of D&H. I would not be working where I am today, if it were not for his pioneering efforts! Seems Izzy's life journey was nothing short of busy and fun times.

Michael, Dan, and all of his loving family: Thank you for sharing your husband, dad, and grandfather with our Co-owner family at D&H! May God grant you peace, strength and comfort during this time. What a legacy Izzy leaves for many!

Chantel Harris, D&H Co-Owner

My father worked for D&H in the 1950's alongside Izzy. The Schwab family was incredibly generous to a poor kid from Harrisburg. They taught him how to be a mensch. My family is eternally grateful to have known Izzy. May he rest in peace.

John Duggan, D&H Co-Owner

My deepest condolences to the Schwab Family. I feel fortunate to have worked under Izzy and been part of his company update meetings in the Arena on 7th Street. He will be missed.

David Csurics, D&H Co-Owner

Dan, So sorry to hear the news of your dad's passing. Your father's imprint on the Harrisburg community, D&H, and your industry remain indelible. For me, I constantly marveled at his youthful spirit, candid expression, the beautiful relationship with your mom, and most importantly his incredible children. You, Michael, and Amy embody so many of your dad's special qualities, while you and your next generation carry forward his beautiful legacy. Thinking of you and your family and sending our love. Your dad's memory will always be a blessing.

Ted Bernstein, Family/Friend

Dan and Michael, I am sorry to hear of your dad passing away. I knew Izzy for roughly 50 years, since we first purchased RCA TVs from D&H for our Central PA stores. And knowing your dad was an adventure, as he was full of life and not afraid of telling me (or anyone else) when I was wrong! He always treated us well, even though we were a small account (and his counterpart in selling us RCA, where we were one of their largest accounts ... they did not treat us nearly as well!).

There are a few key memories I have of your dad. From when I first met him until my dad passed away, he always asked about my dad, to see how he was doing. They had known each other since the early 1960s, a generation of giants in our industry and our lives that we will not bear witness to again.

I heard many stories through the years from our Harrisburg Adler cousins of your dad's (and your entire family's) generosity to the Harrisburg Jewish Community. Most of the time it was very quiet, as your dad believed in doing the right thing and he did not need to receive the covet or the publicity. He definitely understood the steps of Maimonides' ladder; we can all aspire to this level of kindness and charity.

One of my favorite stories was when one of our team members made a trip to your HQ with a client and your dad decided to pop into the meeting. Your dad used a bit of profanity (okay, a lot of profanity!) which shocked our team member. Of course I thought that was hysterical, as it was simply Izzy being Izzy.

Your dad was brilliant. Making the pivot from an RCA/Whirlpool distributor to a focus on PC products (and later to commercial IT and to other products) was not easy ... and the fact that none of the other RCA distributors survived the transition speaks to his brilliance. Your dad had the ability to see where the world was going, as opposed to only be focused on the current business was a tribute to his smarts. Izzy was one of the half dozen smartest business people that I ever met, period.

And your dad was a great manager of people. I look at the many D&H execs that I met through the years and realize that your dad gave them plenty of room to grow. That was not the norm; and it is how you both treat your team members today

Your dad was a character. Your dad was a great businessman, And most importantly, he was a great person! Seeing where you two have grown the business made him proud; it was clearly his teachings that helped guide you on the path.

You will miss him terribly. And yet every day, I know that he will be part of your lives, both professionally and personally. May his memory be a blessing.

Adam Levin, Business Partner

There are so many thoughts and memories that I have about Izzy since knowing him for over 24 years. One that will always touch my heart is back when my late wife was in the hospital for three months before losing her to Cancer. Izzy called me one day and told me that he made HR give him my phone number and called me once a week to see how we were doing and if there was anything he could do. That really touched my heart to have the owner of the company that I worked for cared about me and my family. Rest in peace my BROTHER!!!

Ron Smith, D&H Co-Owner

What a legacy Izzy built and contributed to. Grateful to him and his family for being such a force for good in our area and impacting so many. Rest in peace Izzy.

Ryan Hogan, D&H Co-Owner

In Memory of Izzy.

I will always remember Izzy standing at the front of the room during vendor days in our old building-greeting each vendor personally, making every partner feel valued and seen. That was who Izzy was: present, genuine, and unwavering in his commitment to people.

One moment that will stay with me forever was when Izzy insisted on being there to see Fred Eddy off at his retirement party, although he could not make it inside, we met him outside to be sure he had that personal moment. No title, no schedule, no responsibility was ever more important to Izzy than showing up for others. It was just who he was-a leader defined by heart, loyalty, and respect.

Such a legend will never be forgotten. His impact lives on in the stories we share, the values he modeled, and the countless lives he touched.

Rest in peace, Izzy. Your legacy lives on.

Lisa Rivera, D&H Co-Owner

I joined D&H Distributing at the 7th Street location in July of 2019. During my very first week, it was business as usual until suddenly I heard a loud voice echoing through the office, complete with a few well-placed "F-bombs."

I remember thinking, "Karen, are you sure you're still working in Harrisburg? Or did you somehow end up back in your home state of New Jersey?" You know, the state with attitude ... where the state bird is essentially a three-finger salute.

It didn't take long to learn that the voice belonged to my new boss's father, Izzy, D&H Chairman Emeritus.

When I finally met Izzy in person, I was surprised. He was kind, sweet, and incredibly funny. I couldn't help but wonder if this was really the same man I had heard earlier. It was ... and it wasn't. That contrast was pure Izzy.

When I joined D&H, plans were already underway to move to the new headquarters, so we quickly shifted into packing mode. And pack we did. I had the opportunity to help Izzy pack up his office, carefully ensuring his many collectibles were protected and would arrive at the new HQ safely.

The more time I spent with Izzy, the more I realized he was one of the most intelligent and fascinating people I had ever met. It was easy to see where his children get it. He could engage in conversation about almost anything, and I discovered we were like minded on many levels.

Once we moved into the new headquarters, we set up Izzy's office to his liking ... collectibles and all. It was a lot of work, but with the help of many people, we made it happen. As I learned more about D&H's history, it became clear just how profound Izzy's impact was in building an extraordinary company filled with amazing people, and then passing it to his family, Dan and Michael to lead it into the future.

As we settled into a routine, I somehow managed to train Izzy NOT to light up a cigar the moment he arrived at the office - at least when he needed help with his computer or other tasks. It took some effort, but he actually complied. (Cigar smoke and long hair simply do not mix.)

Izzy typically came into the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, cruising by my desk on his electric scooter or power wheelchair with a cheerful, "Good morning, lovey." Sometimes he took the sharp turn near my desk like he was driving in the Indy 500. He was eventually banned from driving into Dan's office after a small collision made it very clear just how dangerous he could be behind the wheel.

Izzy also knew great food - and exactly where to find it. If he wasn't having something shipped in from New York, he'd send his aide to a favorite deli in Harrisburg or another local spot to pick up lunch. We enjoyed some good eats!

While I only knew Izzy during the final chapters of his life, I feel truly blessed to have known him, learned from him, and witnessed the deep love he had for his family ... and the love and respect they had for him in return.

His passing is a loss to all of us who remain here, and I know we will each cherish our personal memories we shared with one remarkable man.

Until we all meet again...

Karen Doremus, D&H Co-Owner

Izzy welcomed me with genuine warmth-and often with his loyal dog by his side, a quiet reflection of the loyalty and kindness he lived. He built a remarkable legacy through his work, his integrity, his family and the way he treated people. I'm deeply grateful and honored to have shared time with him, and his presence will be truly missed.

Daniela Mota, Business Partner

Izzy meant so much to me and my family personally and professionally over my 35 years at D&H. He was a visionary for moving the company in the 80's and 90's from a regional appliance distributor to the "wild west" of national IT and electronics distribution. That was no "done deal" at the time: it was fraught with risk, with no guarantee it would work, and the business felt like a life and death concern. Survival of the company was always top-of-mind, always driving us. And yet, it was also fun. We had a common purpose, driven from Izzy and Gary Brothers throughout the organization. Growing the company was critical, but it was also about doing the right thing, about the fundamentals of the distribution business: providing value to the vendors, exceeding customer expectations, and creating a work environment that encouraged hard work, loyalty, and success.

Izzy was passionate. He could be intense, especially if he thought we weren't doing enough to sufficiently service a customer or vendor, or to contain costs. He was funny. He loved magic and jokes. And he could tell a helluva story (including the infamous "buzzard" story). He loved competing and winning and he cared about every piece of the business because he knew every piece was meaningful and contributed to our overall success. Through it all, he kept people at the heart. The creation of the ESOP was a bold move that created win-win situations and tied the company and its success to its people. It's something for which I remain forever grateful.

Izzy led a remarkable life and left a broad and important legacy that will live on.

Pat Donovan, D&H Co-Owner

Heartfelt sympathies and deepest condolences to the Schwab and D&H family, friends, and colleagues.

Dave Ancharski, Business Partner

A life well lived and an amazing legacy left behind. Heartfelt condolences to the Schwab family.

Steve Signorello, D&H Co-Owner

There's so much to say, and little need to say it. Suffice to say that I entered the CE business in 1977. Two of the first people I met were Izzy and Gary. Both were consummate professionals and immediately loveable. I won't waste your time with details. What's important to note is that Izzy has remained one of my favorite humans, and perhaps one of the finest humans I've been blessed to know. He will be remembered and missed by thousands. But profoundly by me. Izzy, you done good. No one needs to look further than Michael and Dan. A well deserved legacy. Much love to your incredible family, and know that you will be loved forever.

Rob Keamen, Colleague

I've always been a small part of a big mission at D&H. I've always been proud of my contribution but never felt entitled to Izzy's praise or attention. But he gave me more than that. My daughter was born 5 months after I began my career at D&H. Izzy Schwab built and maintained a culture that allowed a young father true balance, to be present for important moments at work and at home. As my daughter grew she was a frequent visitor to D&H offices and events. Once Izzy knew her, he remembered her. Every time. He took that little extra moment. He made her feel important. He gave her a smile, and sometimes a goodie bag. She never worked for him, but she was no less a part of the family than anyone else that did. I'll never forget that.

Todd Bain, D&H Co-Owner

I was a new co-owner and my first time on the new campus happened just as covid was thawing out. Very few people were in the building. I'm walking down the hall and all of the sudden I see this dog (Sugar!) run past me and all I could smell was cigar smoke...how odd?!. I followed Sugar and it led me to Izzy. I introduced myself and he told me all about the incredible team and culture that I'm now a part of. I'll never forget that day. I'm honored to say that I knew Izzy and be a part of his incredible journey.

Tom Bamrick, D&H Co-Owner

I have had the privilege of working at D&H for almost 20 years and some of my fondest memories of Izzy go back to the time in the old building. His office was not that far from where I sat on the upper floor at the time and it was not unusual to see Izzy at the office until after 5:30. He struck me as the kind of man that liked to keep his finger on the pulse of the business. The fact that we have always had visible CEOs is not lost on me as many people work for businesses and probably are not even sure what their leaders look like. Not so at D&H. The leaders are visible and in the trenches and Izzy was the greatest example of that. Between him traveling the hallways to get snacks in the kitchen with Sugar (who often stopped by my desk for a pet) to seeing his Cord parked often in the lot during the summers, it was those human moments that you saw the heart of the man who built this company. He wasn't just a leader; he was a fixture in our daily lives. Izzy, you will be deeply missed but your legacy (and Sugar's) will always be a part of this company.

Lydia Rigas, D&H Co-Owner

Although we did not know Izzy personally, we deeply appreciated his leadership and values, which closely align with our own. It is a pleasure supporting the organization he helped shape, and his impact on D&H. May his legacy continue to prosper for the unforeseeable future.

Cheryl Elmore, Business Partner

My deepest condolences to the family, and to everyone who knew and loved Izzy. He built an amazing legacy and a company I am truly honored to work for. Izzy and Sugar always brought a smile to my face as they would stroll through the office on 7th Street. Izzy was one of a kind; his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

Teresa Simmons, D&H Co-Owner

So sorry to learn of Izzy's passing. As a young-ish, new associate of a manuf. rep firm 30+ years ago, he treated me without any judgement, just kindness and good intention to do business, and with friendship-which for me became my understanding of the D&H way, now so well ingrained throughout this great, American organization that he so well led through so many decades and economic cycles. I am grateful for knowing him, for having had his mentorship, and for what he has left behind to and through his incredible family, and for the rest of us. I will miss him (too).

Bob McAlaine, Business Partner

Thank you, Izzy, for your vision and leadership which has created a family like culture that encourages collaboration, learning and growth. You are missed but will always be a part of the D&H DNA.

Eric Merante, D&H Co-Owner

It's with great sadness I'm here offering my sincerest condolences. When I started in 2009 I'd often see Izzy and his side-kick Sugar walking the building (usually on his way to sneak a cigar in the warehouse, lol). He'd always have a quick word of encouragement or crack a joke on his way past all of us Canada peeps. On days I'd walk past his office, Sugar was always near-by policing traffic. Izzy's door was always open and once in a while we'd have a quick chat or exchange pleasantries. Because of Izzy, his sons, and the warm down to earth "people first" focus he created at D&H, I stayed for 17 years. Honestly, best decision I've ever made. Izzy will be missed by many.

Dawn Combs, D&H Co-Owner

Sending my sincere condolences to the family during this difficult time. I had the honor of working for and with him for 26 years, and I will always be grateful for the guidance, leadership, and clarity he brought to every interaction. I truly appreciated his to-the-point style-direct, thoughtful, and always focused on what mattered most.

His contributions to the company were extraordinary. Among his many achievements, instituting the ESOP stands out as a lasting legacy that has helped so many people retire with confidence and security. His impact reshaped the future for countless co-owners, and it will continue to be felt for generations.

He also raised a wonderful family, and I've been fortunate to get to know them over the years. Their warmth, character, and kindness say so much about the man he was.

One of the things I've loved seeing in our new HQ is the tribute of naming the game room after him. I know I'll think of him fondly every time I'm in taking a quick break there.

He will be deeply missed, both personally and professionally. Wishing his family comfort, strength, and peace in the days ahead.

Ed Hidden, D&H Co-Owner

When I started at D&H in the middle of 2007, Izzy was in the final year active leadership as the Chairman & CEO of the company. After Dan and Michael became co-presidents in May of 2008, Izzy had some more time on his hands to pursue his hobbies and passions. The creative team - then known as the art department - was often called in to assist, and as the newest graphic designer on the team, many of the projects came my way. (I was also the closest to the door, and the first to make eye contact with Izzy often got the job.)

For over a decade, there was never a shortage of "Izzy Jobs": scanning vintage newspaper clippings, comic strips, and family photos, drawing cartoons, making custom cigar labels, and bringing Izzy tireless imagination to life with prank dollar bills and playing cards for his magic tricks and banners for his flea circus. After delivering one project to Izzy - he asked for a caricature of Gary Brothers based on a photo of him umpiring a company softball game combined with a caption from a newspaper comic - he gave me one of my favorite professional compliments, albeit in his own uniquely-Izzy way. He said, "I'm glad to see they finally started hired an artist in the art department!" (Mind you, the graphic design profession had been fully digital for several years at this point...)

As time went by, I became known as the company historian - acting as the D&H Museum curator and owning a lot of the building enhancement projects. These often included retrospectives to honor the legacies of the Schwab family and company leaders that built D&H into a prolific nationwide distributor. Through these projects, I did a lot of research and documentation of the company's history, which gave me several opportunities to chat with Izzy and get his account of decades of company growth. I was also granted rare access to his vault of relics and keepsakes to create the centennial shadowbox. It was an incredible experience to browse through so many trinkets, photographs, and historical documents that impacted not only D&H, but the city of Harrisburg where D&H had called home from 1936-2019.

I'm thankful for those memories with Izzy and being able to observe the family-business dynamic between Izzy, Michael, Dan, and Amy as part of the "Project Centennial" team working on the transition from 7th Street to Tech Drive. Izzy was proud of the successful transition of leadership, and I know that this next generation of the Schwab family will carry on Izzy's legacy of innovation and prioritizing people-first.

Like so many, I was saddened to hear about the passing of Izzy. Since joining D&H, I've had the good fortune of learning a great deal about what makes this company one of a kind, and why that uniqueness is a direct reflection of Izzy's vision. When it comes to caring for its co-owners and partners, I can attest that D&H is a company unlike any other. Though I never got to meet Izzy, I feel lucky to be part of an organization that embodies the values he carried forth - values like trust, hard work, sincerity, generosity, and friendship. My condolences to the Schwab family. Thank you for carrying on Izzy's legacy and for all that you do to make D&H so very special.

Dena Koklanaris, D&H Co-Owner

It is an honor to work for a company filled with so many family values, led by Izzy and then his sons. There are so many memories of Izzy from my 17 years here, but the thing that stands out most is how much passion he had for this company and its people.

Michele Braxton, D&H Co-Owner

Thank you for creating a company that helps my family and I in so many ways. Its amazing how this little American company grew to what it is now today. God Bless you and your loves ones at this time.

Diana Howard, D&H Co-Owner

I have many good memories of Izzy, He used to come to me to help him with tech support for some of his projects. One of my fondest memories was when my parents were visiting me from Texas and I requested they attend the compamy picnic. Izzy and Elaine were so kind and gracious to my parents and my Dad who didn't know Izzy mentioned what wonderful people I worked with and how nice it was that the company had such great events and included the families and children. I see so much of Izzy in Dan and Michael and send love out to the family. I feel blessed and honored to have known Izzy and he will be missed.

Dave Shunk, D&H Co-Owner

He establish the ESOP to improve productivity and engagement, often leading to faster company growth than non-ESOP firms. A great achievement. Condolence.

Izzy was a character as well as a CEO. I had the privilege of meeting him at the end of his tenure behind the D&H wheel and have many fond memories. A favorite was a brief conversation at one of our many trade shows at the Hershey Lodge. I was manning the home and outdoor booth and he came by the table and said to me, "we actually sell this again (there may or may not have been an explicative intermingled there). Now as you probably know at one point D&H had a booming housewares business and we were seeing a resurgence in the 2010's. My response was simple, "yes captain we are selling this again and quite well at that. Everyone needs to fill their home with the latest and greatest!" With a smile. He looked up at me, patted me on the back, said I know good work. Izzy had his finger on the pulse and it worked. He was relatable to the story he told our family built this and we want you to be a part of it. It inspired me and helped me launch into a career I have never been more satisfied with. God rest you Captain.

Izzy taught me early in my career that leaders don't belong in high towers-they belong with their people and should hear what employees were truly saying, not just what they expected to hear. Which is a value that I believe Dan and Michael got from him. One of my earliest memories at D&H was stopping by his assistant Carol's desk. Izzy passed by, headed back to his office, and said, "This is a rough day. Why won't management let us drink on the job on days like this?" As a twenty-something, I was caught off guard-but even now it makes me smile. Because if Izzy ever really wanted a drink on the job, who was going to stop him? I also remember walking through the 7th Street lobby, where Sugar would happily wander from person to person. Moments later, Izzy would appear at the top of the stairs looking for her, joking that Sugar always knew exactly who would spoil her. And truly-who could say no to petting a dog at the office? When Dan and Michael were beginning their transition into co-presidents, Izzy told a group of us to let him know if they weren't doing a good job because he would "handle it." He laughed and said being both their boss and their dad gave him a "double whammy." And of course, anyone who ever worked past 6 p.m. knew they weren't alone. You always knew Izzy was still working late when you smelled the familiar scent of cigar smoke drifting through the lobby on your way to the car.

Wendy Pattison, D&H Co-Owner

When I first interviewed for my job here at D&H, I walked into the 7th street HQ not knowing what to expect. I had great conversations with my future teammates, and as I was leaving I ran into Izzy in the lobby with Sugar. I stopped to ask if I could pet her and we got into a conversation about why I was in the building that day. We spoke about D&H's history and values, and why he thought it was an amazing place to build a career. Needless to say when I later learned I had chatted with the President of D&H I was astounded he had taken the time to chat! Izzy was a leader who understood the value of each and every one of his employees, and instilled that humble leadership into D&H's DNA. He will be greatly missed.

Daniel Ryan, D&H Co-Owner

While many of us did not have the honor of knowing Izzy personally, our long-standing partnership with D&H has made one thing clear: Izzy's influence is everywhere. D&H possesses a uniquely exemplary culture that values partnership and ethics above all else, a standard that clearly took root under Izzy's leadership. We are deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Please accept our sincerest condolences.

What a legacy to have built and shared. There are so many memories that he was part of, so many stories shared throughout the years. Tina Rogers, D&H Co-Owner

My sincere condolences to the Schwab family and all D&H staff. Although I am only a small and insignificant customer of D&H who has just learned about Mr. Schwab, his lifelong achievements impress me and evoke feelings of nostalgia. I, too, share your sense of loss. His legacy will endure through D&H. May God comfort all who are mourning.

Izzy will be missed by all that knew him. I loved that his door was always open and many times as I would be walking past he would call me in to have a chat. I would often go into his office and help him with Facebook or LinkedIn. I remember creating accounts for him as he wanted to stay in touch online. Sending my condolences to the family and all who knew Izzy as he was a remarkable individual.

Janet Leon, D&H Co-Owner

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

I have worked at D&H and for Izzy for 17 years I worked the mailroom and also I was part of the switchboard operator team along with Karen . So I have many memories of D&H . Izzy was a very kind person and loved his family and very dedicated to his business. Tammy Cro, D&H Co-Owner

Izzy will be missed, but not without the lasting legacy of the D&H company he helped build, reimagine, and maintain over several decades. Whether continually helping co-owners understand the small margins for every dollar earned by D&H or guiding others through leadership with decisions towards an innovative future with a diversified portfolio, Izzy kept his partners and co-owners in mind through the many challenges and successes of D&H growth. Since joining D&H many years ago, I remain very appreciative of the D&H culture and the path laid under Izzy's guidance. Thank you for helping us understand the benefits of serving for the greater good of our partners and other co-owners, which ultimately leads to the success of the D&H company.

Ben Westrick, D&H Co-Owner

I am heartbroken to hear the news of Izzy's passing. He was the heart and soul of our company - a leader who inspired us with their vision, supported us with their kindness, and made every person feel valued. His passion for what we do and their belief in people created a workplace that felt more like a family. While it's hard to imagine moving forward without him, the lessons he taught us and the example he set will continue to guide us. My love and deepest condolences go out to the Schwab family, friends my other D&H Co-Owners.

Dianna Rubly, D&H Co-Owner

So, my story is about Izzy and Sugar. As a new employee at the old building, it was a little nerve wracking being in the big city as I was a smalltown developer prior to working for D&H. To get from my desk to the kitchen I had to pass by Izzy's office and at one point he asked me in to see how I was doing as he knew I was new. That very much helped me feel at home at D&H. Now, about Sugar who guarded the hallway outside Izzy's office, she owned that part of the building, and it was a privilege for her to allow you to pass. It took about a year until she accepted me and allowed me to pass without a security check every time. D&H is an amazing place to work and is one of the few places you can work your whole life as a career.

Tom Neth, D&H Co-Owner

Sending my condolences to the the entire Schwab family as well as all the D&H co-owners, past and present. I had the pleasure of partnering with D&H for eight years and while I didn't get an opportunity to work directly with Izzy, his presence was always felt. Beyond his incredible business success, his greatest achievement is his family legacy. Truly some of the keenest and kindest. Just good people! Now that is a legacy! Rest in peace, Izzy.

Mary Lou Miller, Business Partner

Izzy was one of the most unique individuals I have ever met. He had a presence that could quiet a room. :) There was this one time at one of the D&H parties back in the day. I was talking with and he looked at me and said, "you are a lifer. I can tell." LOL, well he was not wrong. So very sorry to the Schwab family for their loss. He will be missed by many.
